Description

Join UMBC and Blackboard for a special series of professional development webinars this fall.

Beyond the prospects of enrolling new student populations into competency-based education (CBE) programs, colleges and universities are increasingly pursuing this exciting delivery model for a variety of reasons important to students, such as employability, affordability, accountability, and accessibility. Moreover, because CBE requires rethinking assumptions that underlie practices, institutions find it is a meaningful way to introduce change in the academy. In this session, we will provide a CBE 101 overview, introducing CBE concepts, key institutional considerations, and opportunities and challenges on the road to competency-based education.

Following this presentation, participants will be able to:
  • Define competency-based education (CBE)

  • Discuss ways CBE is being applied in higher education

  • Identify opportunities and challenges to this approach
