Description
Improving access to hybrid/online education means, among other things, ensuring that your online course materials, teaching and learning activities, and assessments are accessible for all learners. This workshop will help you better understand the legal framework for accessibility in hybrid/online education and how learners with disabilities participate in hybrid/online classes. You will also explore the practical application of procedures for instructional designers, instructors, developers, and administrators to create ADA compliant hybrid/online courses.
Workshop Objectives
- Identify types of accommodations needed for different visible and non-visible disabilities
- Understand how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) frames the decisions made in designing and delivering hybrid/online courses
ADA and Web Accessibility is an online, week-long workshop from the Online Learning Consortium through a partnership with the University System of Maryland. The workshop will begin on Monday, November 7, 2016, and end on the following Sunday, November 13, 2016, requiring approximately 6-8 hours of work, including reading research-based articles, viewing presentations, engaging in online discussion forums, and submitting assignments.
To sign up for an OLC workshop, please open an RT ticket with the name of the workshop and preferred date(s). Please submit your request at least seven days prior to the start of the workshop to allow time for OLC processing. Instructional Technology staff will assist with your registration, answer any questions you may have about the experience, etc. You will receive a confirmation email from OLC after we register you and an additional email about 24 hours before the workshop begins with login information.
