Digital Accessibility Office Hour: The 15-Minute Fix

Drop in. One question. One fix.

Location

Engineering : 102

Date & Time

November 18, 2026, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Description

Do you have a digital accessibility question in need of an answer? Stop by our office hour for real-time support. This session is open to faculty and staff who have a focused question or accessibility challenge. Think of images, PDFs, multimedia, captioning, contrast, tables, etc.

Each participant can expect up to 15 minutes of individual support. Join our office hour,  get help, and head out -- or stay and listen if it's useful. No presentations, no prep required -- just practical help when you're stuck.

This office hour will be facilitated by Ada Crutchfield, Instructional Design Specialist; Tori Jakpa, Assistive Technology & Digital Accessibility Specialist; and Michael Canale, Assistant Director and Deaf & Hard of Hearing Coordinator.

How to Register - Two Options

First, register for this myUMBC event for either in-person or virtual and add it to your calendar! Next, if you’ve selected “virtual”, please book your 15-minutes time slot google form. While not required, pre-booking a slot is highly recommended. Faculty and Staff registrants will receive a personalized email confirming their virtual time slot. If you’re joining in-person, you may join anytime during the 12pm-1pm drop-in hour and disregard the 15-minutes time slot google form.

Join the Session - Bring your laptop

This workshop will take place in a hybrid format.

  • If virtual, then visit the myUMBC Event post and select the "Join Online Event" button to enter your scheduled session up to 5 minutes early.
  • If in-person, then drop by our ENGL 102 conference room during the session and don’t forget your laptop along with your question!

Prior to the Event

  1. For the best viewing experience, we recommend using Chrome, Brave, or Firefox browsers, preferably with the most recent updates. Closing any unnecessary browser tabs will help conserve your bandwidth.

  2. Please review the requirements to use Google Meet. Learn how to connect your audio & video, change/blur your background, and use reactions. You can also review the accessibility support,  including live captions.

For more information about digital accessibility, visit UMBC's Digital Accessibility site or run an Ally course report today. Support is also available from the Office of Disability Access & Resources and Instructional Technology.
