Campus Wide Network and Service Outage Earlier this Morning

From approximately 9:40 to 10:40 the campus experienced a widespread service outage that affected most campus systems including login to myUMBC, blackboard, and the campus websites among others. This was the result of an unexpected internal systems failure. Unfortunately, while these systems are all designed to be resilient and have multiple redundancies in place, the system did not failover cleanly, causing this outage. 

Our engineers were able to bring the systems back online and restore all services within an hour. We are in the process of doing an in depth investigation of exactly why this failure caused such an outage so we can make any changes needed to prevent future outages. 

We are truly sorry for the inconvenience this morning, and appreciate everyone's patience as we worked to restore these services.
