New Media Studio Returns to Sherman Hall

Come tour the new digs, tech and set at 10/7 “Open House”

After three years operating out of temporary quarters in the Engineering Building, UMBC’s New Media Studio (NMS)—a unit of the Division of Information Technology’s (DoIT) Instructional Technology and New Media group—has officially returned to its newly renovated permanent home in Sherman Hall!

The move back marks an exciting new era for the Studio, complete with major infrastructure overhauls and new team members ready to serve the campus community.

Upgraded Technology & A Fresh Look

The renovated Studio space has been transformed to support modern, high-definition production needs. Key upgrades include:

  • Comprehensive 4K Upgrades: Features brand-new LED studio lighting and complete 4K control room.. Built to support high-end multi-camera studio productions, podcasting, field projects, live streaming, and campus sports broadcasts for platforms like ESPN+

  • The New Media Studio TeamNew "Video Wall" Set: Working with DoIT’s AV Services team, the Studio now has a new high-tech video wall offering dynamic, flexible backdrops for presidential messages, departmental promotional videos, research dissemination, and educational programming.

New Faces in a New Space

The temporary relocation period was also a time of growth for the Studio team. DoIT welcomed two new full-time Video Production Specialists during the move: Mary Arsenault and Leonard "Lenny" Frieson III. Working Alongside Manager Dustin Roddy and Video Production Specialist Matt Baker, both Mary and Lenny bring invaluable production expertise to the team—and both are experiencing the permanent Sherman Hall studio layout for the very first time!

Together, the four-person team supports everything from large-scale campus events like Commencement and Convocation to live stream ESPN and America East broadcasts of more than 60 games a year, as well as in-house studio production of campus presentations, interviews and podcasts, and ad-hoc video, graphic creation.

To celebrate the return and showcase the new space, the New Media Studio invites all UMBC faculty, staff, and students to an upcoming Open House:
