Identity and Access Management

UMBC’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) system is the centralized service that manages digital identities for anyone affiliated with the university—whether for a few weeks or a lifetime. This includes students, faculty, staff, alumni, emeritus members, contractors, and guests.

Each person is assigned a unique myUMBC username, which links to their identity and determines their access to university-wide and departmental computing resources based on their role at UMBC. The IAM system helps ensure that individuals can access the resources they need, while also protecting those resources from unauthorized use.

The IAM system includes a combination of policies, processes, and technologies that support secure access to UMBC’s online services. It enables departments to confidently provide access to their systems by relying on each individual’s established UMBC identity.

Managed by the Division of Information Technology (DoIT), the IAM system ensures that people receive timely access to the right services—and that access is removed when it’s no longer appropriate.
