GlobalProtect VPN Authentication Change
Login process for the GlobalProtect VPN has changed slightly
As part of a recent update, connecting to UMBC's GlobalProtect VPN system will use your computer’s default web browser when signing in. This process differs from what VPN users may be familiar with where the authentication happens within the GlobalProtect client.
This change in process reflects a change in the default settings of the VPN system but offers VPN users a simpler experience. Using the computer’s default browser allows the system to leverage other authentications to UMBC services thus reducing the number of logins required by the user.
After you authenticate, your browser may ask for confirmation about opening the GlobalProtect application. The exact phrasing of this confirmation will vary depending on your browser, but should include an option to "Always Allow" your browser to open GlobalProtect. Choosing this option will prevent you from being prompted in the future.
For more detailed instructions on this process see our FAQs below.
For questions about this or issues with the GlobalProtect VPN, please don’t hesitate to contact the Technology Support Center.
