To help ensure students are equipped for academic success, UMBC requires all undergraduate and graduate students to be technologically self-sufficient, and cyber-safe and secure as much as possible. Minimally this requires students to have a reliable personal computer (preferably a laptop) and internet access to use their UMBC account secured by Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA).
To assist students in preparing for these essential IT needs, the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) provides a wealth of resources and support, including minimum specifications to consider when purchasing a computer, as well as how to install and use Duo, which is required of any UMBC account holder. Finally, these requirements build off UMBC’s “Assured Access to Computing” initiative that has been in place since 2001.
