In this session, Mike Sharkey, an analytics thought leader, teacher, consultant and long-time friend of UMBC, will share his lessons learned using data, narrative and visualizations (including Tableau) to raise awareness and inspire action. The presentation and Q&A will cover the following:

• A consultant's perspective on data analyses (what's the problem the client is trying to solve...are we sure that data analysis will be the right approach for them)
• Data analysis and visualization (tools, best practices, caveats)
• Crafting a deliverable -- telling a story with data (are we answering the client's questions...what are they expected to do with your deliverable).
