Campus Data Center Outage from Storms Last night

As a result of the storms and campus power blink, the main campus data center briefly lost power around 11:10pm Tuesday night. The power backup systems for the room carried the load through several surges and brownouts, but on one occasions it was unable to recover quickly enough and all data center systems were taken down.

Most user-facing services were back up within a few minutes but the infrastructure groups were working through several issues and validating or correcting the state of systems for the next several hours. As of 2:00am we believe almost everything is back online and fully operational.

One of our central research computing systems, the Ada GPU cluster is only partially online and we will be working to bring it fully back online later this morning.

If you do experience any issues with IT services in the morning, please put in a ticket through https://rt.umbc.eduor call 410-455-3838 and we will quickly address any lingering problems from the storms or outage.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outages, and as always, if you have any further questions or would like additional information, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
