DoIT Deploys New Virtual Desktop Solution
Connect to a Lab Image from Any Device and From Anywhere
UMBC has partnered with Dell and the University System of Maryland (USM) to develop a virtual desktop solution. The new environment is based on a Dell solution named Virtual Desktop Environment (VDE). You can now connect to a standard UMBC computer lab image from your Mac, PC or even your iPad. This allows students to gain access to licensed software that would normally require them to visit one of UMBC's labs. Now students can access software like SPSS, SAS, Matlab, Comsol, Mathematica etc. using their own device. The only requirement is the personal device should have a good internet connection.
How do I access the VDE system?
Simply visit virtual.umbc.edu using one of the recommended web browsers.
How do I remotely connect to a computer lab?
Need Help?
During the pilot phase of this solution you can send an email to vde@umbc.edu This will create a ticket and assign it directly to our internal VDE queue in RT. Alternately you can submit a ticket.
