Humanities Scholars explore Baltimore micro-cultures
During the fall semester of 2015, students in seminar HUM 120 "Documenting Culture in Baltimore" explored three businesses along Baltimore's Paca Street. In this course, first-year Humanities Scholars created short digital ethnographies exploring micro-cultures in Baltimore City, focusing on community icons like the Trinacria Italian Deli, Krug Iron Works, and Faidley Seafood. All three have been active in their current location for well over one hundred years.
The course was jointly taught by Michelle Stefano, american studies and Bill Shewbridge, media & communication studies, and was based at the New Media Studio. For more information on the class read this UMBC News feature. The following videos were produced by the class:
